What's in the Museum?

The Catacombs Museum contains a menagerie of feline artifacts, inventions, historical figures, and art. Each wing highlights a different aspect of cat history, from famous cat leaders to cat legends like Nosfercatu. Our museum also contains a Learning Annex filled with historical texts and studies related to the items featured in our exhibits.

Who is our community?

Our community serves the catkind community as a whole from all paws of life. From curious kittens to adventures tabbies, our exhibits seek to connect all catkind with their shared histories.

How can one conduct research here?

Our Learning annex contains an archive of over 1,000 manuscripts, scholarly articles, and primary source materials available for patron usage. The Learning Annex also hosts special guest lectures from cat researchers around the globe.

What is our mission statement?

The Catacombs Museum celebrates the enduring fascination with cats, showcasing their rich history, cultural significance, and captivating personalities through captivating exhibits and engaging programs.  Our mission is to inspire wonder, appreciation, and understanding of these extraordinary creatures, fostering a deeper connection between humans and cats.

What educational programs are associated with the museum?

We offer rotating educational programs throughout the year to support our local researchers. As of February 2025, we currently have two educational programs. The Sir Isaac Mewton Science program is designed for children of all ages to explore the science behind some of his greatest inventions. We also currently have the Purrcatso Art Program that teaches patrons the history of cat art as well as the basics of painting. Check our educational programming page here for more information about current offerings.

Did the textbook help in the creation of this museum?

Our groups stance on the "Manual of Digital Museum Planning" was that it provided a framework for conceptualizing the website's structure and functionality. Its emphasis on user experience, accessibility, and content management helped our team shape the website's design and organization. The manual's guidance on developing a clear website strategy and its focus on integrating various digital tools and platforms proved invaluable in ensuring the website's effectiveness and user-friendliness.

While the manual offered valuable insights into digital museum planning, our group felt it did not provide specific technical instructions for website development. The book's focus on broader planning principles and conceptual frameworks was essential for understanding the overarching goals and objectives of the website, but we feel it did not delve into the technical details of website coding or platform selection.
